You don’t need a lesson
in biodiversity…
You don’t need to worry about habitat loss, changing weather patterns, or which plants will cope with next year’s dry summer.
What I’ll be
thinking about:
- Soil and water, resilience, plant communities, habitat, longevity, seasonal change.
- Proportion, repetition, structure, views and movement.
- Where you sit, where the sun shines, where it gets frosty, what you see from the kitchen window, and whether a border looks as good in February as it did in June.
- And for pubs, cafés and shared spaces: how people arrive, where they linger, and planting that works as hard as the room inside.
- And always, all the other life your garden could support… And maybe a pond?
What you do need
to know is what
matters to you.
You don’t need plant names. You don’t need Latin. And you definitely don’t need to arrive with your dream garden already mapped out.
You might know exactly what you want — or have absolutely no idea. Both are fine. My job is to listen, understand how you want to use the space, and help you see the possibilities.
What you’ll need
to think about:
- You want colour, but not too much orange?
- Somewhere for a drink with friends?
- Don’t want loads of maintenance?
- Do want to get your hands dirty?
- You love roses? You hate roses?
- …And maybe a pond?
And if I choose well, everything else that lives in, feeds from, shelters in or simply passes through your garden gets an upgrade too.
You get a bloody
nice garden.

Practical needs sit alongside the character of the site, creating a garden that works for everyday life while feeling distinctive and connected to its surroundings.
Planting Design
For new borders, tired or troublesome planting, or a completely new planting scheme.
Planting is designed around the conditions of the site, including soil, light, aspect and available space, as well as the atmosphere you want to create.
The focus is on layered, resilient planting with seasonal interest, bringing plants together in ways that feel natural while creating more opportunities for wildlife.
Garden Consultations
A fresh pair of eyes and a little direction.
Not every garden needs a complete redesign. Sometimes a fresh pair of eyes and a little direction is enough. A consultation can help you make sense of an existing garden, solve a difficult area, rethink planting, introduce more biodiversity or simply decide where to begin.
We can walk through the space together, talk through what is and isn’t working and develop practical ideas for taking it forward.
Hospitality & Public Spaces
Beautiful, welcoming and practical.
Outdoor spaces used by lots of people need to be beautiful, welcoming and practical. For pubs, hospitality venues and other shared spaces, design and planting are considered alongside the realities of how the space will be used, from circulation and seating to seasonality and ongoing maintenance.
The aim is to create character and a strong sense of place while finding opportunities for richer planting and greater biodiversity.
The best spaces have life in them, evolving with the seasons, supporting wildlife and becoming richer over time.
